CHORUS MUSICUS KÖLN

CHORUS MUSICUS KÖLN has been founded by Christoph Spering in 1985. Initially acting as chamber choir of the protestant church community of Mülheim/Cologne, CHORUS MUSICUS soon developed a nationwide reputation for its inspired historical interpretations, high virtuosity, and beauty of sound and pure intonation. The chorus’ repertoire reaches from baroque to 20th century music and focuses on rarely performed and neglected compositions, mainly of the 18th and 19th century.

  Repertoire

The choir is a young vocal ensemble consisting of professional singers, music scholars, and highly qualified amateurs. CHORUS MUSICUS KÖLN also worked with guest conductors such as James Conlon (including a recording of Zemlinsky’s Works for Chorus for EMI) and with Reinhard Goebel (including a recording of Handel’s “Marienkantaten” for DGG).

Further concerts were conducted by Gerd Albrecht, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Philippe Herreweghe. Lately, the chorus has received invitations to perform with other orchestras, such as the Orchestre National de Lille, the Gürzenich Orchester / Kölner Philharmoniker, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, and above all the Israel Camerata, Jerusalem, developing a long-term collaboration and friendship.

Under the direction of its leader Christoph Spering CHORUS MUSICUS KÖLN established its reputation through awarded recordings and with numerous concerts at international festivals in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, England, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
